United Kingdom
United Kingdom in 8 Days
London, one countryside region and one northern city. Rail makes the combination straightforward.
Overview
Most first trips to the UK are really trips to London with an excursion attached. That is fine, London can hold a week, but the country changes character quickly once you leave it.
Two combinations work particularly well. London with the Cotswolds and Oxford gives you the village and college England people picture. London with Edinburgh, by a four and a half hour train, gives you two genuinely different capitals.
Weather is the standing joke and the standing truth. Pack layers and a light waterproof in any month, and plan at least one indoor option per day.
